Midnight's Children (2013) - Movie Review

Midnight's Children is the movie by Deepa Mehta based on the novel by Salman Rushdie. Although this movie is not considered a very good and perfect one in many regards, but still it captures most of the essence of the novel. Midnight’s Children is about the tale of three children who were born at the stroke of midnight of 15th August, 1947. This tale is about the switch of destinies which began right after their birth when the midwife nurse, Seema Biswas changed their tags inspired by the slogan of "Let the rich be poor and the poor, rich". It was the gesture of the misguided Seema Biswas which ultimately created the twist and changed the fates of these three children.

Darsheel Safary played the role of childhood of Salim and his sister’s role is being played by Soha Ali Khan but later his character was played by Satya Bhabha.
Both the performances of Darsheel Safary and Satya Bhabha have been presented with extreme perfection and extremely in accordance with each other. Rajat Kapoor is playing the grandfather of Salim and Shabana Azmi as his wife. The third child is Parvati playing Sriya Sharan who is quite whimsical and pretty character and later on becomes a witch. The characters of Rajat Kapoor and Shabana Azmi are specifically important in this movie. All the characters have been played by the actors who are extremely suitable for the ones they are playing in Midnight’s Children. Shiva has become the military commander in the movie later on while Satya Bhabha got involved in with the beautiful witch Sriya Sharan when he was young. This character of Satya Bhabha was totally correspondent with that played by Darsheel Safary. Soha Ali Khan does not have any strong role but it is still carrying some importance.
There are many other characters in Midnight’s Children which are further augmenting the role of Rajat Kapoor and Shabana Azmi. Among them the role of a mother who fell victim to the turmoil is played by Shahana Goswami. This character of Shahana Goswami has been important because this was presented in order to highlight the events of turmoil and crossfire between the different ethnic groups in the movie Midnight’s Children. Further the characters of Ronit Roy, Anita Majumdar and Rahul Bose are also important. Rahul Bose has played the power broker husband of Anita Majumdar. Rahul Bose is basically the military power broker. Anita Majumdar is playing the ambitious and hard hearted woman. Ronit Roy has played immensely well by presenting the personality of the frustrated businessman. The greater part is being played by Ronit Roy in the movie Midnight’s Children. On the other hand Sriya Shravan also has an influential role.
