Jack Reacher (2012) - Movie Review
‘Jack Reacher’ is a mystery that sets off with an amazing video game- inspired launch series -- a mystifying solitary gunman discharges six gunshots that cause five dead facing PNC Park in Pittsburgh in wide daytime. The offense scene is strewn by convincing proof, each pointing toward an ex-army sniper, James Barr having a stained psychological health record. However, the suspect forcefully disagrees with all blames, hardening the plot by scrawling a laden instruction at the arresting officials ‘Get Jack Reacher’.
Christopher McQuarrie adapts the idea of ‘Jack Reacher’ from Lee Child's book ‘One Shot'. He brings Tom Cruise as Reacher in the movie who is an army cop and is the best at almost everything he carries out. His character has multiple shades. He portrays himself best as clever fighter, an excellent marksman, and a smart investigator with a pictorial remembrance.
You can see him telling the time without looking at a wristwatch and driving a vehicle in reverse at Formula One speed.
Reacher doesn’t let anybody respond and appears on the sight by means of the messianic strut of an all-star quarterback. Although it was not a difficult case but Barr named him for a motive. Thus, Reacher makes a deal with the defense legal representative Helen Rodin (played by Rosamund Pike) and starts to investigate more intensely.
James Barr indeed is not guilty and being framed as ‘Jack Reacher’ gives us an idea about the true murderer in the beginning. However, it is a challenge for the character to discover who is reliable, and who is behind framing Barr.
"Jack Reacher" sports a number of very good villains. It is great to see director Werner Herzog's threatening, affected presentation as the Zek, an ex- Siberian criminal became bogeyman.
If talk about acting score, we find Tom Cruise the best as always. Werner Herzog as villain is hardly seen in the film
, but acts superbly. David Oyelowo plays Emerso whereas Richard Jenkins plays the DA. Rest cast like Rosamund Pike and Robert Duvall are good in their roles.
McQuarrie’s direction for action scenes of ‘Jack Reacher’ is practical than unforgettable. There is a scene of car chasing, which is although easy to predict about but has okay finish, with a lot of soundtrack. Overall, ’Jack Reacher’ is an average movie that is wordy in the first half, has dull conspiracy and does not deliver any surprises.
