Talaash (2012) - Movie Review

Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan is back with another remarkable performance in his new movie ‘Talaash’. He has been a darling of Hindi movie audiences and very selective in movies. Let's find out what his latest selection brings for all of us.

‘Talaash’ begins with a bollywood star’s murder. Aamir Khan who plays inspector Surjan S. Shekhawat aka Suri has been assigned this mystery to solve. His has many secrets and lies in his past; moreover he is not comfortable with the bitter truth that he could not save his own young son from drowning. This anxiety keeps disturbing him and he gets further away from his life-companion Roshni (played by Rani Mukerji).
Kareena Kapoor who plays Rosy in ‘Talaash’ helps Suri in solving the mysterious case. She shows him the way to the cunning Temur (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who is not directly caught up in the crime but is familiar with some secrets more than anybody else.

The production designer Sharmishta Roy and cinematographer K. Mohanan do not successfully portray ‘Talaash’ for a faultless atmosphere of murder and mystery. Even the first half has many starts and stops of plot building and character developing.  However it is just wonderful when the movie throws itself completely into in the mystery, but it does not have such grip that makes you glued on your seats. ‘Talaash’ is more about Suri’s guilt and loneliness which then moves to a murder mystery,
Filmmaker Reema Kagti second film’s ‘Talaah’ was a much awaited film of the year because of the promising actor Aamir Khan. It should have brought something great but after watching it, lovers of Hindi movies and Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan find it the rude joke of the year.
I do not know why Aamir Khan chose ‘Talaash’, while it is obvious that  he should not be a part of a thriller like this. His fame demands more sensibility, realism and rationality, which seems being disappeared with ‘Talaash’. However, if we evaluate ‘Talaash’ at acting scope, Aamir Khan gives his 100% and is as great as always. He has beautifully portrayed the confusion and guilt of Suri’s character in ‘Talaash. Kareena Kapoor looks beautiful and is the only attraction of ‘Talaash’.  Rani Mukherji plays a mature role. Her heart wrenching performance as a grief mother and a loyal wife is outstanding.  Nawazuddin Siddiqui is awesome in his character. The script of ‘Talaash’ is written by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar and is indeed stimulated by a Hollywood movie

Overall, Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash’ is a despairing film in his remarkable acting career and a one time watch for his fans.
