Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) - Review

Yash Chopra is another name of romance. Nobody could portray love & romance than he did through his legendary movies. He knew how to show human feelings on the screen. He was the king of romance, human emotions and endless love. The decease of Yash Chopra is a great loss to Hindi cinema. His last directorial movie ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ is now released for his countless fans. As the title says, it is a love story that centers around Shah Rukh, Katrina and Anushka. ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ celebrates romance and unconditional passion that certainly brings lovers to the cinema. Let’s review the last romantic presentation of a great director of Hindi cinema.

Shah Rukh Khan is playing Samar Anand who is a Major in the Indian Army's bomb squad. His job is defusing bombs, so he is always prepared to die. Anushka Sharma is an energetic documentary filmmaker Akira. She is an intern at the Discovery channel. She is unaware with the concealed feelings of Samar. One day she finds a diary written by Samar. The diary tells his life when Meera was in his life. Katrina Kaif plays Meera in ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ and looks really pretty. ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ then travels in the past where Samar and Meera met in London. Samar falls deeply in love with stunning Meera but destiny plays its part differently and they get separated for 10 years. Akira helps Samar bring Meera back to his life.

Though ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ may remind you Yash Chopra’s another legend Veer Zara, but he brought about a positive new age bloom in his handling of feelings of a mature man. His direction for ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ is admirable. Samar’s way of expressing his love for Meera is immensely deep; or even the moment when he allows her to leave after knowing they may not see each other again is hugely deserving of praise.

The first half of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ brings the gentle wind of passionate scenes of Katrina Kaif and Shah Rukh Khan. Their performances are immensely endearing, and they look great in the movie. The second half shows some crisis where the movie is pretty much slipped into expected parts. Shah Rukh Khan once again is splendid as a symbol of love. Katrina Kaif is also good at her role. Anushka Sharma is perfect in her bubbly and cheerful character. Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor as guest appearance are great. The film is 3 hours long length. The true strength of JTHJ arrives in the basic root of the film i.e. romance, passion and madness which strongly capture hearts of the viewers.

A. R. Rahman as a music composer and Gulzar as a lyricist do not add any magic to JTHJ, however, its background music is really tremendous. Anil Mehta is outstanding with his cinematography. Overall, Jab Tak Hai Jaan has some flaws but it still attracts Hindi cinema lovers toward its decent love story.
