English Vinglish (2012) – Movie Review
Sridevi plays Shashi Godbole in English Vinglish. She is an obedient housewife and has two kids. Her only passion is making Laddoos after fulfilling her jobs as a housekeeper and looking after children. In today’s world, where children cannot introduce their parents to their friends or cannot find them a match of other’s parents just because of lack of English language.
Same happens in the movie when once Shashi’s daughter gets embarrassed as Shashi does not much English so she cannot present her mom to her friends. Adil Hussain is playing Sridevi’s husband’s role as Satish Godbole. On her husband’s advice, Shashi decides to leave for London to become an expert at English. However, one day comes when she stuns everyone with a complete change personality.
Gauri Shinde is precisely successful in handling every small emotion and presents it perfect on screen. She has no such experience of directing movies but still she depicts many emotions. English Vinglish let you have some tears in your eyes with a smile when you get into the characters. How Shashi becomes a decent English speaker, is extremely energizing and praiseworthy.
Gauri Shinde brings a realistic and practical approach in the story of ‘English Vinglish’. There are no moments that allow you to predict about the film. She has beautifully presented Shashi’s reactions to the inclination of a French man towards her.
As mentioned earlier, Sridevi has a main role and the rest of the cast is just supports her performance only to draw attention to the entire film viewing experience.
Overall, English Vinglish is a movie of two women’s efforts and courage. Offcourse one is Sridevi and second Gauri Shindi. They have delivered one of the best films of the year of 2012. Everyone must watch English Vinglish.
