1920 : Evil Returns (2012) Review

Vikram Bhatt’s ‘1920-Evil Returns’ is the sequel of 1920, one of his most famous horror movies, which was released four years back. Rajneesh Duggal and Adah Sharma were in the main lead of the movie. 1920 had interesting script and great performances by each actor that left a riveting impact on the audience mind and grabbed their attention from the beginning till end.
‘1920- Evil Returns’ is a different story than ‘1920’, however Vikram Bhatt has put the same elements of possession, vengeance, fiction and romance as they were in its first part. The movie shows is based on the year of 1920. Aftab Shivdasani is playing the character of Jaidev Varma who is a poet and possesses good manners. Vidva Mavade is presented as his only sister’s role whose name is Karuna.  Tia Bajpai plays Smurti in ‘1920-Evil Returns’. Jaidev sees Smruti on beach and falls in love with her. Jaidev does not delay in connecting with her.
He brings her home to understand that she is possessed. Smurti does not remember anything about her past nor does understand what possess her body. Jaidev wants to save her and tries to find out the causes behind her condition. Somehow he is victorious to reveal the past that leaves a shocked impact on him. How Jaidev saves her life and what incidences happen in his mission? The rest part of ‘1920-Evil Returns’ is full of mystery that is solved only when you watch the compete movie.

‘1920-Evil Returns’ has every possible wrong within it. Except for the locations set for the movie nothing portrays the year on which the movie is based. Its characters, dialogues and outfits do not bring any impression of the year of 1920.  The movie has so many back stories on its script that makes it more wordy and boring.  ‘1920-Evil Returns’ lacks impressive romantic moments. Aftab Shivdasani as Jaidev seemed as a lovesick pup in nearly all love scenes. Even if he looks glum all over however his performance is really praiseworthy.  Vidya Malvade was presented as Aftab’s sister in ‘1920-Evil Returns’, had a funny make up and hairdo that put smile on viewers’ faces.  Tia Bajpai as Smruti looks good everywhere in the movie; moreover her performance is also appraised in the entire film.
Unlike any weird and ghostly film, ‘1920-Evil Returns’ seems a comedy movie. There is no such nail biting or nerve chilling scenes that freeze your blood. At many places, actor’s dialogues made people laughed loud. Vikram Bhatt’s 1920 had a great and touchy music. He has attempted giving the same to its sequel however Chirantan Bhatt’s composition is not as much impressive as the composition of ‘1920’ was. ‘Tum bhi tanhaa ho’ is the only song that gets on your nerves when you listen to its lyrics. .
Overall, Vikram Bhatt’s ‘1920- Evil Returns’ does not justify as a sequel of ‘1920’. It appears unsuccessful in connecting with its audience. Likewise ‘1920- Evil Returns’ never scares any of them; instead they found it a farce movie.
